Social housing redefined
A unique social housing project in Hengelo of fully circular houses. These four spacious 3 storey houses in a modular timber building system mark the entrance of the new neighbourhood, de Nieuwe Es. The striking location challenged us to design a facade that would fit in the fully brick surroundings.
Area
145m2 (per house)
Location
Hengelo Nieuwe Es, NL
Period
2021
Designing and building with a social housing budget, and applying materials that minimise the environmental impact, made this project a prototype for future project-based housing.
The facade is made of brick tiles mounted on a frame without cement. All parts of the building can be re-used with zero waste making the houses fully circular. Floors and walls are made of European pine wood and mineral wool insulation provides a safe, low energy, high comfort interior climate.
